What is it?

Address autofill & autocomplete speeds up checkout by predicting and completing address details as shoppers type. After three characters, intelligent suggestions appear — one tap fills the entire address (street, city, postal code, country).

Address autofill & autocomplete is part of Ingrid Address form.

Key benefits

For retailers

  • Faster checkout — fewer keystrokes, less abandonment at the address step

  • Higher data accuracy — recognized addresses reduce typos and format errors

  • Lower failed delivery rate — accurate address data flows downstream to carriers

  • Locale-aware suggestions — proposals match the shopper's country and language

For shoppers

  • Less typing — three characters trigger suggestions; one tap fills the form

  • Reused addresses — browser-saved addresses can be applied with a single click

  • Fewer errors — autocomplete catches typos before they cause delivery problems

How it works

  1. The shopper starts typing in the Street field

  2. After three characters, intelligent address suggestions appear

  3. The shopper picks a suggestion — street, city, postal code, and country auto-fill

  4. The address is validated and the shopper continues to delivery options

The autocomplete-enabled field is marked with a search icon, signaling that suggestions are available.

Address providers

Ingrid supports two providers for autocomplete and suggestions:

Provider

Coverage

Suggestion display

Google

Global

Flat list of matching addresses

Loqate

US only

Grouped suggestions — drill down by area to a specific address

The provider is configured per retailer. Loqate is available for the US market only, so Google is the provider for all other markets.

Use cases

Faster global checkout with Google

A retailer operating across multiple markets enables Google for autocomplete. Shoppers in any country see relevant suggestions after three characters.

Postal-grade accuracy with Loqate

A US retailer uses Loqate for enhanced address validation. Shoppers see grouped suggestions (e.g., "34 addresses on Defynnog Road"), drill down, and pick the exact address — reducing failed delivery risk for tax-sensitive markets.

Returning shopper with browser autofill

A returning shopper's browser has saved their address. They click into the form, pick the browser autofill suggestion, and the address is applied instantly — no typing needed.

Configuration

Address autofill & autocomplete is set up as part of Ingrid Address Form. The provider (Google or Loqate) is configured per retailer.

FAQ

Q: How many characters trigger suggestions?
A: Three. After typing three characters in the Street field, suggestions appear.

Q: Which countries are supported?
A: Google supports global coverage. Loqate is US only.

Q: Can we use Loqate outside the US?
A: No. Loqate is available for the US market only — use Google for all other markets.

Q: Can shoppers ignore suggestions and type the address manually?
A: Yes. Shoppers can continue typing manually if no suggestion matches their address.

Q: Does autocomplete support non-Latin characters?
A: Yes. The address form and both providers accept non-Latin character input.

Q: Does autocomplete validate the address?
A: Autocomplete returns recognized addresses, which means most suggestions are pre-validated. Standard Google-based autocomplete does not validate to tax-calculation precision; Loqate offers enhanced US validation.

Q: Can a retailer use both Google and Loqate at the same time?
A: The provider is configured per retailer. Switching between providers requires a configuration change.

Q: Where does the autocomplete trigger?
A: On the Street field by default. The field is marked with a search icon.
