What is it?

Region rules control which delivery options are shown based on the shopper's country and postal code. They are the first step in the checkout pipeline — before any other rules or carrier checks run.

Region rules aren't written as expressions. Instead, you set up regions in the Ingrid Merchant Platform, assign countries and postal code ranges to each region, and assign carrier products. The filtering happens automatically based on the shopper's delivery address.

Key benefits

  • Country-specific delivery options — different carriers for different markets, managed automatically

  • Postal code precision — offer same-day delivery in metro areas, different carriers for remote zones

  • No manual switching — delivery options adapt instantly when a shopper changes their address

  • Prevents failed deliveries — shoppers never see options that aren't available in their location

Common use cases

Country-specific carriers

You ship to Sweden, Norway, and Denmark with different carriers in each country. Set up one region per country, assign the relevant carrier products, and each shopper sees only their country's options.

Metro vs. rural delivery

You offer same-day delivery in Stockholm but not elsewhere. Create two regions for Sweden — one for Stockholm postal codes with same-day carriers, one for the rest without.

Remote area handling

A carrier doesn't serve remote northern areas. Create a separate region for those postal codes with a limited set of carriers that do cover the area.

How to set it up

  1. In the Ingrid Merchant Platform, navigate to Delivery Checkout → Regions

  2. Create a new region or select an existing one

  3. Define the countries this region covers

  4. Optionally define postal code ranges for more specific targeting

  5. Assign delivery categories and carrier products to the region

  6. Save and test with different addresses in the Checkout Playground

Tips

  • Avoid postal code gaps — if a postal code isn't covered by any region, no delivery options will appear for that address

  • Avoid overlaps — each postal code should map to exactly one region to prevent duplicate options

  • Name regions clearly — "Sweden — Metro" is easier to manage than "Region 1"

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What happens if a shopper's postal code doesn't match any region?
A: No delivery options will appear for that address. Make sure every postal code in your delivery countries is covered by at least one region.

Q: Can I have multiple regions for one country?
A: Yes. You can create separate regions for different postal code ranges within the same country — for example, metro, south, and north.

Q: Can region rules handle conditions like cart weight or product type?
A: No. Region rules only check country and postal code. For cart-based conditions, use Filter Rules.

Q: Do region rules work in both Checkout V1 and V2?
A: Yes.
