What is it?
To use FedEx as a shipping carrier through Ingrid for outbound bookings or returns, each merchant links their FedEx account to Ingrid through a guided setup flow in the Ingrid Transport UI. This is a one-time setup per merchant per environment.
The flow generates merchant-specific FedEx credentials linked to Ingrid's certified Compatible Solution Provider account, and creates a carrier contract in Ingrid that the platform uses for all FedEx API calls.
This guide walks through the end-to-end setup for production use.
When MFA and EULA setup is required
MFA (multi-factor authentication) and EULA (end user license agreement) setup is only needed when you use Ingrid to book either outbound shipments or returns with FedEx.
If you use Ingrid only for checkout (displaying FedEx delivery options) or tracking, MFA and EULA agreement setup is not required — Ingrid handles this in the background.
Before you start — what you need
Collect the following before starting setup. All values must match exactly what is registered with FedEx — a single mismatch will cause credential generation to fail.
Required detail | Notes |
FedEx account number | Exact account number as registered with FedEx |
Registered address | City, country code, postal code, street line(s), state/province (required for US) |
Customer name | Billing name as used on the FedEx account |
Validation access | Either access to the email or phone number registered with FedEx (to receive the secure code), OR a recent FedEx commercial invoice |
⚠️ If you cannot access the email or phone number registered on your FedEx account, MFA via secure code will fail. Confirm access before starting, or plan to validate via invoice instead.
Step-by-step setup
Step 1 — Create a new carrier contract
Open the Ingrid Transport UI
Navigate to Settings → Carrier contracts
Click Add contract
Enter a Name and optional Description for the contract
Select Carrier product: FedEx
Click Retrieve credentials — the setup modal opens
Step 2 — Accept the FedEx user license agreement
In the Retrieve credentials modal:
Scroll through the FedEx Terms of Service (scrolling to the end is required to proceed)
Toggle "I accept"
Click Next
⚠️ This step must be completed by the FedEx account holder. It is a legal requirement and cannot be completed by another party.
Step 3 — Enter FedEx account and address details
Enter:
Account number
Address — city, country code, postal code, street line(s), state/province (required for US)
Customer name
Then click Next.
⚠️ Address must match FedEx billing records exactly — postal code format, street abbreviations, and spelling. Any mismatch will result in an error.
Step 4 — Complete multi-factor authentication
Choose one of two validation methods:
Option A — Validation via invoice
Provide details from your most recent FedEx commercial invoice:
Invoice amount
Currency
Invoice date
Invoice number
FedEx cross-checks these against their records.
Option B — Validation via secure code
FedEx sends a one-time PIN to a channel you select:
Email
SMS
Voice call
The channel used must be the one registered on your FedEx account.
Enter the PIN to complete validation.
On success, a green confirmation screen appears: "Credentials retrieved. The authentication is now complete." Click Close.
Step 5 — Finalize the contract
After credentials are generated:
Review the contract details
Click Create (top right) to save the contract
A Contract ID is generated. This Contract ID is required for all FedEx booking API requests going forward.
What this does for booking
When the flow is completed successfully:
Ingrid's system requests a merchant-specific child credential set from FedEx, linked under Ingrid's parent account
The child credentials (Child Key + Child Secret) are stored against the carrier contract
All FedEx API calls (bookings, labels, returns) for this merchant are authenticated using Ingrid's Client ID + Client Secret combined with the merchant's Child Key + Child Secret to generate an OAuth token
Step 6 — Contact Ingrid Support to complete configuration
Once your credentials have been successfully generated (Child Key and Child Secret), contact the Ingrid Support team to enable the configuration settings for your specific account.
Ingrid Support will handle the remaining setup on our side to ensure your FedEx integration is fully configured and ready for use.
After setup
Your carrier contract is ready for use. All FedEx bookings made through the Ingrid platform — outbound or returns — will use these credentials automatically when the Contract ID is referenced.

FAQ
Q: Can I complete MFA without access to the email or phone number on the FedEx account?
A: Not via secure code. Use invoice-based validation instead, or update your contact details with FedEx first.
Q: What if my MFA fails?
A: Common causes:
Account number, address, or customer name doesn't match FedEx records exactly
The selected MFA channel (email, SMS, or voice) isn't registered on your FedEx account
Invoice details (amount, date, number, currency) don't match the most recent invoice
Verify all values and try again.
Q: Do I need to repeat this setup for stage and production environments?
A: Stage and production are separate environments at FedEx. Ingrid uses sandbox accounts for stage testing; you only complete production setup once for live shipping.
Q: Can Ingrid complete this setup on my behalf?
A: No. For production setups, accepting the FedEx user license agreement and completing MFA are legal requirements that must be done by the FedEx account holder.
Q: What is the Contract ID used for?
A: The Contract ID identifies your linked FedEx account for all booking requests. It must be included in every FedEx booking API call from Ingrid.
Q: What if I don't use carrier contracts for booking?
A: If you do not have access to or do not use carrier contracts, you will still need to complete the MFA and EULA setup in Ingrid's Transport UI. Here's what to do:
Complete all steps in this guide as normal — including EULA acceptance and MFA validation
Once Step 5 is completed and your child credentials (Child Key and Child Secret) are successfully generated, contact the Ingrid Support team
Ingrid Support will add the generated Client Key and Client Secret directly to your configuration settings in the backend
