What is it?

Magento does not support automatic inventory restock through the Ingrid Returns integration. Instead, Ingrid Returns records the restock decision made during quality check for each returned item and makes it available — in the Returns Back-office and via the Public API — so you can update Magento stock manually or through your own sync.

No stock update is ever sent to Magento automatically. The restock decision is recorded in Ingrid; applying it to Magento inventory is the merchant's step.

How it works

  1. Returned items arrive at the warehouse and are inspected in Quality Check (or reported via a WMS / the Public API).

  2. For each item, staff record an approve/reject restock decision — stored as approvedForRestock on the item.

  3. Ingrid does not call Magento — the item's restockStatus stays NO_RESTOCK for Magento shops.

  4. You retrieve the decisions (Back-office, Warehouse Reports, or the Public API) and update Magento stock manually or through a custom job.

Key distinction: approvedForRestock is the warehouse decision; restockStatus reflects whether Ingrid executed a restock (always NO_RESTOCK for Magento).

Where to find restock decisions

  • Quality Check — Returns Back-office → Quality Check

  • Warehouse Reports — Returns Back-office → Warehouse Reports (view/export across returns)

  • Public API — GET /merchant/return/{returnId} returns approvedForRestock per item

Examples

Manual daily restock

Warehouse staff mark items approved or rejected in Quality Check. At the end of the day, the ops team exports Warehouse Reports and increases stock in Magento Admin for the approved SKUs only.

Automated sync via the Public API

A scheduled job pulls recently completed returns, reads approvedForRestock per item, and calls Magento's own inventory API for the approved items — a fully automated workflow that the merchant builds and maintains.

FAQ

Why does restockStatus show NO_RESTOCK even when the item was approved?
restockStatus reflects whether Ingrid sent a restock to the platform — and for Magento it never does. Use approvedForRestock for the warehouse decision.

Can I enable automatic restock for Magento?
No. It's fixed at the integration level and isn't configurable.

Does the restock decision affect the refund?
No — they're independent. An item can be refunded regardless of its restock decision.

Limitations

Limitation

Detail

No automatic restock

Ingrid makes no Magento inventory call, and this can't be enabled.

restockStatus always NO_RESTOCK

No restock operation is executed for Magento shops.

Manual or custom sync required

Update Magento stock manually in Admin, or via your own job using the Public API.

Per line item, not per unit

A restock decision covers the whole line-item quantity; sub-unit approval isn't available.
