What is it?

Delivery/ billing address separation handles the relationship between delivery and billing addresses in checkout.

By default, the delivery address is reused as the billing address — shoppers fill out one form, and Ingrid shares the address with the Payment Service Provider as billing. When a shopper needs a different billing address (gifts, business purchases, corporate cards), a secondary billing form can be activated.

Delivery/billing address separation is part of Ingrid Address Form.

Key benefits

For retailers

  • Lower checkout friction — shoppers complete one form when delivery and billing match

  • PSP compatibility — delivery address can be shared with multiple Payment Service Providers as billing

  • Flexible payment scenarios — supports cases where delivery and billing addresses differ

  • Cleaner address data — when collected separately, both addresses are stored independently with no duplicate entry

For shoppers

  • Faster checkout — no duplicate address entry when delivery and billing match

  • Flexibility — option to provide a different billing address when needed

  • Both addresses saved — when collected separately, both can be saved to the address book for future use

How it works

  1. The shopper provides a delivery address during checkout

  2. By default, the delivery address is reused as billing for the Payment Service Provider

  3. If the shopper needs a different billing address, they uncheck "Same as delivery" — a separate billing form appears

  4. The shopper enters the billing address; both addresses are validated independently

  5. Both addresses can be saved to the address book for future reuse

Use cases

Same as delivery (default)

A shopper enters their delivery address, leaves "Same as delivery" checked, and completes checkout. The PSP receives the delivery address as billing — no extra step.

Gift purchase

A shopper buys a gift for a friend. Delivery address is the friend's home; billing address is the shopper's. They uncheck "Same as delivery" and fill the billing form separately.

Corporate card with personal delivery

A shopper pays with a corporate card registered to a business address but ships to home. Same as the gift case — separate billing form.

Repeat shopper, both addresses saved

A shopper who frequently sends gifts saves both addresses (theirs and the recipient's) in the address book. On the next checkout, they pick the right one for delivery and billing.

Configuration

Delivery/billing address separation is configured per retailer. The "Same as delivery" checkbox is checked by default; unchecking it activates the separate billing form.

FAQ

Q: What is the default behavior?
A: "Same as delivery" is checked by default. The delivery address is reused as billing, and no separate form is shown.

Q: When is a separate billing form needed?
A: When the shopper's billing address differs from the delivery address — common for gifts, business purchases, or corporate card payments.

Q: Can the billing address be shared with multiple Payment Service Providers?
A: Yes. Ingrid supports sharing the billing address with multiple PSPs, eliminating duplicate entry across providers.

Q: Does the billing form support country-specific layouts?
A: Yes. The billing form follows the same country-specific configuration as the delivery form.

Q: Can shoppers save both delivery and billing addresses to the address book?
A: Yes. When delivery and billing differ, both can be saved as distinct entries.

Q: Is the billing address validated?
A: Yes. Independently from the delivery address, using the same validation logic.

Q: Does the billing address affect delivery options or carriers?
A: No. Carriers receive the delivery address. The billing address only flows to the Payment Service Provider.

Q: Can the billing address be pre-filled from the address book?
A: Yes. When the shopper activates the separate billing form, they can select a saved address from the address book.
