What is it?

Delivery Date Selection allows shoppers to choose their preferred delivery date during checkout. Instead of receiving a generic delivery window, shoppers see a list of available delivery dates and can select the one that works best for them.

This feature can be enabled in two ways:

  • Via carrier integration — if the carrier's API response contains multiple timeslots, these are displayed as selectable delivery dates in checkout

  • Via custom shipping options (CSO) — retailers can define predefined timeslots for delivery date selection, independent of carrier API

Key benefits

  • Fewer missed deliveries — shoppers choose a day they know they'll be home, reducing failed delivery attempts and redelivery costs

  • Higher checkout conversion — giving shoppers delivery date choice removes uncertainty and increases purchase confidence

  • Better customer satisfaction — shoppers feel in control of their delivery experience, leading to higher post-purchase satisfaction

  • Reduced WISMO contacts — when shoppers choose their own delivery date, they're less likely to contact support asking "where is my order?"

How it works

  1. Shopper reaches checkout and selects a delivery option that supports delivery date selection (e.g., "DPD delivery date selection")

  2. Ingrid calls the carrier's API to retrieve available delivery slots

  3. Available dates are displayed in a "Change delivery time" selector — showing day name, date, and time window where applicable

  4. Shopper selects their preferred date and confirms

  5. The selected delivery date is passed to the carrier at booking

What the shopper sees

In the delivery options list:

  • The delivery date selection option shows the default delivery window (e.g., "Delivered between Thursday April 23rd and Monday April 27th")

  • A clickable selector allows the shopper to change the delivery date

In the date selector:

  • A list of available dates (e.g., Monday 27th April, Tuesday 28th April, Wednesday 29th April...)

  • Some dates may include specific delivery time windows. If supported by the carrier, narrower time slot selections, including 1-hour slots, may be presented to the shopper.

  • Shopper selects a date and clicks "Save"

Use cases

Premium delivery experience

A fashion retailer wants to offer a premium delivery option where shoppers can choose exactly when their order arrives. By enabling Delivery Date Selection with DPD, shoppers see available dates and pick the most convenient one — turning delivery from a guessing game into a choice.

Result: Higher conversion on the delivery date selection option, fewer missed deliveries, increased willingness to pay for delivery.

Reducing failed home deliveries

A furniture retailer ships large items that require someone to be home for delivery. Delivery Date Selection lets shoppers select a date they'll be available, dramatically reducing failed first-attempt deliveries and the expensive redelivery attempts that follow.

Result: First-attempt delivery success rate increases, redelivery costs drop.

Multi-carrier delivery choice

A retailer offers multiple delivery options at checkout — same-day (HIVED), next-day (Evri), delivery date selection (DPD), pickup points, and standard mail (Royal Mail). Delivery Date Selection adds a premium option to the mix, allowing shoppers to choose between speed, convenience, and price.

Result: Shoppers self-select into the delivery option that matches their preference, increasing overall satisfaction.

Requirements

  • Carrier support or custom shipping options — either the carrier's API response must contain multiple timeslots, or retailers can configure custom shipping options with predefined timeslots

  • Ingrid configuration — the delivery date selection option is configured per carrier product within the checkout delivery categories

  • No additional shopper account needed — works for all shoppers, including guest checkout
